After The Lord Mayor's Show...

QPR 0-1 Coventry

It was certainly a case of the above today as Rangers recent good run came to a disappointing end. After recent results, especially the outstanding win at Cardiff, many must have thought that beating Coventry would be a formality... sadly, it was not to be.

With last weeks celebrations at the Brook House still firmly in our minds, the gang seemed pretty confident. Although mediocre, the first half was pretty even with both sides having chances. But just three minutes into the 2nd half, Coventry took the lead - Stefan Bailey lost possesion, Adebola turned Rehman perhaps a bit too easily, Royce hesitated, and the big striker fired home.

As the second half wore on, it was becoming more and more evident that it wasn't going to be our day. Although Rangers played some good, tidy football in and around the box, we lacked that killer ball. Jones, Smith, Gallen and Cook all had good chances to level the scores, but for only the third time this season, Rangers failed to hit the back of the net.

QPR: Royce, Bignot, Rehman, Stewart, Mancienne, Ward, Smith, Bailey (Rowlands 56), Cook, Blackstock (Jones 44), Nygaard (Gallen 56). Subs: Thomas, Milanese.

Lofty's Man of the Match - without a doubt - Lee Cook - outstanding yet again today.

Okay, so it wasn't a goal fest, nor were there the thrills and spills that we have become used to over the past weeks, but one thing you just couldn't knock was the effort and work rate from the R's. Coventry were well organised, worked hard and at times, were very physical and definitely deserved something from the game. Whether or not they deserved all 3 points is another thing? Albeit assisted by one of the worst refereeing displays seen at LR this season!

It just wasn't to be...

    Hi Lofty

great report as always. I do find it a shame though that you only get comments when we have a good win! 16 last week, none this week?

I've no doubt people are reading but well done anyway mate!

    Thanks BWood

It is great to get feeback, good or bad and I would be lying if I said it didn't bother me after I put the effort in. The match reports always go on line soon after the game when you often wait for 3, maybe 4 days for other sites to do so.

there you go, not much I can do about it, but thanks all the same :)

no I suppose not, a shame all the same though mate after all the obvious effort you put in. All I can say is keep up the good work!

People are definitely reading -- during the the last dark days of the GW era Lofty got dozens of comments with the fear that Lofty Heights would be no more.

I can't believe people got as down about this match as they did from reading the boards, kind of a pendulum swing. Instead of "We're going down!" the cry was, "How we expect to make the playoffs with displays like this?"

There was a letdown after Cardiff and I have no doubt that JG is lashing the whip right now reminding everyone that they will not stay on the field based on what they did a couple of weeks ago. I fully expect the team to come out fired up tomorrow and get back on the winning track.

    Tremendous job as always Lofty,

Bwood - well thanks mate, appreciated. As mentioned, the feeback and comments makes doing this worthwhile and sometimes, those closest too me say nothing at all. So I get to thinking - 'was that a shit article?', 'shall I change things next time?' etc etc. which often leads to lethargy from myself at times. I appreciate fully that people are busy, but there again, so am I...

    Bobo - thank you!

I agree fully with you! It was frustrating at times on Saturday but by no means the dreadful performance that has been reported elsewhere! For me, it was just one of those games where we just didn't get the rub of the green. I applauded the team off at full time. Those who know me well, know that if I thought it was poor, I wouldn't boo, but certainly would NOT clap either!

As you say, I am fully expecting a different performance tomorrow and hopefully, will be back to winning ways - and another LH report for people to ignore - hahahaha ;)

    Hi Lofty:

Long time Rangers fan, (since 1945!) who lives now in Reno Nevada. I watch the game unfold in the BBC two minute update, then turn to your site to see the details. Keep up the good work, I enjoy the true story from you.

    Hi Lofty

Dont worry about it ever being a shit report mate, i am yet to see one of those from you. The performance was disapointing on saturday but to be fair i think that with the weather muddying the pitch up, like it did it made it hard for us to play the type of football that has got us the last few wins.

Judging by JG's comments the players should be fired up for tonight and hopefully they can make ammends for the last game.
