More Peckish Than Hung(a)ry...

England 3-1 Hungary

Goals from Steven Gerrard (47), John Terry (51) and Peter Crouch (84) gave England a comfortable victory at Old Trafford.

In a dull first half, England also missed a penalty - Kiraly saving Frank Lampard's effort just before the break. The goal of the game, as per the Uruguay friendly, went to the visitors - Dardai (55) firing into the top corner from 25 yards.

The line up tonight could well be the one that takes the field against Paraguay on June 10th, so it was interesting to see how the side would settle. Steve Gerrard played in the Rooney role, just behind Owen, and did well. Joe Cole had an outstanding game on the left side of midfield, as did Beckham on the right, showing an almost complete range of his passing abilities.

On the negative side... yet again, Owen Hargreaves. He looked an absolute shambles when he replaced Carrick. I can only agree with the post match comments from 'Ian Wright' about him -

"He must know something about Sven's past!!"

The only other negative was the goal celebration from 'Peter Crouch'.

The robotic dance was reminiscent of a street artist you would see painted all silver or gold, and definitely needs some work before Germany!!

A concern maybe, is the fitness of Michael Owen. With Rooney injured for at least the Group stages, Owen looks like he needs a few more matches to get his match sharpness back. With only one more warm up game left, will it be enough time?

England: Robinson, Gary Neville (Hargreaves 45), Ferdinand, Terry (Campbell 76), Ashley Cole, Carragher, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard (Crouch 65), Joe Cole, Owen (Walcott 65).

Lofty's man of the match: David Beckham

    let's hope so Rhino...

and it was great news indeed for Crouch to score. I must admit though, Owen's fitness and our general lack of strikers is concerning me a bit!!

I have to disagree about Crouch's goal celebration, I thought it was class! Definite tongue in cheek p*ss take. I'm going to England vs Jamaica this saturday, and hope to see the Stretford End replicate this goal celebration!!!

Beckham proved why he is in the side. It's nice to have an alternative like Lennon, who is an exciting player, but Beckham delivers a great dead ball and his energy is incredible.

I predict another win for England on saturday, before the real thing begins in earnest a week later.

Well hello Mr Bladder, and welcome to the new blog :)

Come on now, that celebration was seriously dodgy. What ever happened to the good old fashioned celebration, you know what I mean... double somersault, a roly poly, finished with a back flip whilst taking shirt off??!!??

Overall, I was pleased with the performance and the result last night, when you consider they are probably all shit scared of getting injured ala Robert Green.

Tell me, how's your metatarsals doing these days? ;p
